Kitalo! Where is Pope Francis Now?

It was Easter Monday evening. My visitors had just left after devouring a mouthwatering beef stew, crafted by my chef of a wife, when the news hit like a thunderbolt. “The Pope is dead!” an elderly neighbor cried out in our local tongue. Shock gripped me. I knew Pope Francis was sick, but the death of such a towering figure still shook me to the core. Then she added, “He’s gone to be with his God.” I froze. All I could choke out was, “Kitalo!” (Alas!). But her words haunted me like a ghost. Was she right? Is Pope Francis with God? No, he is not. And I’ll tell you why: Pope Francis did not believe Jesus is THE Savior. In this article, I’ll expose his grave error. A second article will tackle his rejection of Jesus as THE Lord.

Pope Francis Denied Jesus as THE Savior

The Bible is very clear: Jesus Christ alone is the Savior. He declared, “I am the way, and the truth, and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6, ESV). The Apostle Peter echoed this on Pentecost: “There is salvation in no one else, for there is no other name under heaven given among men by which we must be saved” (Acts 4:12, ESV). Scripture leaves no room for debate: Jesus is THE Savior, not one among many.

Yet, Pope Francis preached a different gospel. In a 2013 homily at Casa Santa Marta, he said, “The Lord has redeemed all of us, all of us, with the Blood of Christ: all of us, not just Catholics. Everyone! ‘Father, the atheists?’ Even the atheists. Everyone! … We must meet one another doing good. ‘But I don’t believe, Father, I am an atheist!’ But do good: we will meet one another there” (Vatican News, 2013). Read that again. Francis claims even atheists can be saved by doing good works, as if faith in Christ is optional. This is blasphemy! He reduces Jesus to a mere suggestion, elevating human effort above the cross.

Lest you think this was a slip, the Catechism of the Catholic Church backs this heresy, stating: “Those who, through no fault of their own, do not know the Gospel of Christ or his Church, but who nevertheless seek God with a sincere heart, and, moved by grace, try in their actions to do his will as they know it through the dictates of their conscience—those too may achieve eternal salvation” (CCC 847). This teaches that non-Christians, even those who reject Christ, smuggle their way into heaven by following their conscience. What a lie! Salvation is not a reward for good behavior; it’s a gift through faith in Jesus alone (Ephesians 2:8–9).

If you thought that was bad, it gets worse. In 2024, at an interreligious meeting in Singapore, Francis doubled down: “All religions are paths to God. I will use an analogy: they are like different languages that express the divine. … There is only one God, and each of us has a language to arrive at God. Some are Sikh, some Muslim, some Hindu, some Christian, but they are different paths” (The Holy See & Francis, 2024). This is a direct rebellion against the Lord. Jesus is not one path among many. He is THE way. Francis’ words spit in the face of John 14:6 and Acts 4:12, peddling a universalist fantasy that all religions lead to God. This is not the gospel of Christ; it’s a demonic deception.

Where Is Pope Francis Now?

My neighbor thinks Pope Francis is “with his God.” I say, “Kitalo!”—he is not. By preaching that salvation comes through good works or other religions, Francis proclaimed “another gospel.” The Apostle Paul is clear: “If anyone is preaching to you a gospel contrary to the one you received, let him be accursed” (Galatians 1:8–9, ESV). Francis stood under God’s curse, cut off from Christ by his false teaching. He was never saved, and now, all hope for him is lost. He is not resting in peace—he is gone, facing the judgment of a holy God who demands faith in His Son alone.
